MySpace Mobsters Revival: The Game You Loved Is Back

Playdom's legendary Mobsters game had 13.5 million players on MySpace. When the platform killed it, millions lost everything. We brought it back.

The Rise and Fall of MySpace Mobsters

If you were on MySpace between 2008 and 2011, chances are you played Mobsters - or knew someone who did. Created by Playdom, the game launched in July 2008 and climbed to the #1 position on MySpace’s gaming platform by September that year. At its peak, Mobsters had 13.5 million installs.

The gameplay was deceptively simple on the surface: build a crime family, run missions, acquire weapons and vehicles, and attack rival players. But underneath that simplicity was a deep, competitive RPG. Players formed alliances, climbed the Made Men leaderboards, invested in strategies that took months to pay off, and built genuine friendships (and rivalries) along the way.

Playdom expanded Mobsters to Facebook and even released an iPhone app called Mobsters: Big Apple. The future looked bright.

Then it all disappeared.

What Happened to Playdom Mobsters?

In 2010, Disney acquired Playdom. By September 2011, Mobsters was shut down on Facebook. The MySpace version followed shortly after when the platform discontinued its gaming features entirely.

Millions of players lost their accounts overnight. Years of progress, real money spent on Favor Points, mob alliances built over hundreds of hours, reputations on the Made Men leaderboard - all gone. A petition on Change.org tried to bring the game back. It wasn’t enough.

For years, former Mobsters players searched for alternatives. Some found other mafia-themed browser games, but nothing captured the same feeling. The community scattered, but the nostalgia never faded.

"I played Mobsters on MySpace for years and spent real money on my account. One day it was just gone."

A sentiment shared by thousands of former players

Mobsters United - Built by Players, for Players

In 2014, a group of former Mobsters players decided enough was enough. They launched an Indiegogo campaign to build a proper successor - not just another generic mafia game, but a genuine revival of what made the original special.

That project became Mobsters United. The game has been live since 2015 and has been actively developed ever since.

Here’s what makes it different from every other Mobsters alternative out there:

The original gameplay, faithfully revived. Missions, mob recruitment, equipment, attacks, the Made Men leaderboard - the core mechanics that made Playdom’s Mobsters addictive are all here.

No platform dependency. This was the #1 lesson learned from the MySpace disaster. Mobsters United runs on its own independent servers. No Facebook. No MySpace. No third party can pull the plug on your account. Your progress is safe.

A community that actually cares. Non-playing admins moderate the in-game chat to keep things competitive but respectful. We operate a zero-tolerance policy on racism and harassment. Mobsters is a game about building a crime family - the competition stays in the game.
